The beauty inherent in a water fountain made of bronze is unrivaled by most other materials.
The aural effect of running water can be very calming to practically anyone, and it does not matter if it is raindrops, a stream or a river, the sounds are soothing and relaxing. When water is added to a bronze fountain, the overall effect is extremely pleasing to the senses. Water fountains add an outstanding feature to almost any yard.
The making of bronze goes back to 4000 BC. It consists of copper and usually with tin as an additive, although phosphorus, manganese, aluminum and silicon are also used. Bronze is well known for its resistance to corrosion and durability. Bronze is found in springs, motor bearings, bushings, fittings, tools, musical instruments, statuary, weatherstripping, and other goods. This metal has many great characteristics, especially when used for outdoor water fountains. Find more on home interior water fountains.
Since it is more expensive, bronze is generally not used for indoor water fountains. Open-air bronze water fountains, on the other hand, have a huge assortment of sizes, shapes and styles. You can buy a beautiful bronze water fountain to put on your patio, or in your garden or yard for as little as a few hundred dollars. There are fountains that are small and delicate-looking, made for a tiny backyard, while others are huge structures, weighing more than a ton and costing tens of thousands of dollars. These sculptures are created as plants, animals, birds, butterflies, fish, mountains, and those weird monstrosities located in municipal parks and public squares. Because there is such a large variety of water fountains available, finding one that matches your décor and budget will be fairly easy. A note of caution: you should never put fish or plants into a water fountain (regardless of size) since the excessive oxygen could kill them, and the continuously falling water causes a turbulent situation, which puts a strain on the fish. If you are fortunate enough to have a pond on the land, adding a fountain, either floating or fixed, will greatly improve the water quality through aeration, thus reducing the naturally occurring algae. A second benefit to installing a fountain is that the flowing water works as a natural filter keeping the water clean. Once again, the falling water is very hard on fish and plants, so keep them separate. The biggest danger to installing a fountain in a pond is the job of getting it powered up. Unless you know precisely how to do it, hire a qualified electrician to put in the power. Do not forget, electricity, water and people don’t blend well. Or rather, maybe too well. Leaves floating in a shimmering pond are infinitely more desirable than dead people!
Assembling a fountain yourself is another possibility if you are somewhat mechanically and electrically inclined. Some of the materials you will need to obtain are a basin, underwater pump, electrical wiring, lights, tubing, a switch and the tools necessary to assemble all of it. The subject of constructing a fountain is outside the scope of this article, however, there are quite a few websites on the Internet that have free instructions on constructing a bronze water fountain. This writer has put together backyard fountains in the past using rocks and mortar (but not bronze, unfortunately) so here’s a little advice: take time to design it on paper ahead of time and avoid the misery of redoing the sections that do not harmonize with the overall theme of your backyard.
