People sleep for one third of our lives so it is important to have a comfortable nights rest.

If you are looking to purchase a new bed then both high street stores and the internet have literally hundreds of kinds to choose from but it is the mattress that is important to ensure a comfortable nights sleep.

There are many different kinds of mattress’s to choose from. These can be air beds, water beds, spring or coil types or the new memory foam versions which change shape to your contour every time you go to bed. This type of mattress works with your body heat – when your body makes contact with the mattress it changes shape to fit the shape of your body.

Different people choose different mattresses. Some people prefer harder mattresses and others softer ones. The Divan type bed (with Divan base and mattress) are often softer than the standard bedstead and mattress.

Another important factor is to purchase a bed large enough for you. Be sure there’s enough room for you both to sleep comfortably. A spacious bed means a better night’s sleep.
If you have a bad back then a water bed may be right for you. As water beds release heat they are a muscle relaxant. For many people though water beds tend not to be supportive enough.

Finding the right position to sleep in can also benefit a bad back. Allot of people say lying on your side with your knees pulled up and maybe a pillow between your knees. {This position| will stop your spine from twisting in the night. If you lay on your back then again a pillow or cushion beneath your knees will relieve the pressure on your lower back. Sleeping on your stomach is the worst way to sleep with a bad back as it causes more pain to your muscles, joints and nerves.
Buying a cheaper mattress is’nt always cost effective. You generally need to change your mattress every 8 – 10 years but cheaper mattresses will need to be changed more often. Choosing the right bed and mattress can help your sleep patterns improve and you will feel better after a good nights sleep and rejuvenated the next day.
