A Redesigned Home Does Not Have To Set You Back Financially
March 5, 2010
These days most people are postponing upgrades to their homes because money is hard to come by. Even if improvements are practical and not aesthetic, people are foregoing the fixes because money is tight. However, if you live in a dull, older home, it may be time for a few changes to make everyone feel better. Maybe you are passing on this year’s summer vacation, or you will spend the holidays at home. To make these sacrifices more bearable, make sure your home is as comfortable and inviting as possible. For a fraction of the cost of redesigning a room, you can make small improvements that make things more cozy. Whether it is adding piano lights or a few throw pillows, a warm, inviting room makes everyone happy. If you live in the Vermont area, consider visiting the House of Troy for affordable, stylish lighting. Once the mood in a room is established with great lighting, you can add other items that make the environment inviting.
Aside from lighting, homeowners can look for ways to add color to a room. If you have always preferred neutral colors in paint and furniture, it may be time for an upgrade. Simply with the addition of color, you can make a room more inviting. Sometimes people assume pops of color have to be red or orange, in blindingly bright shades. However, if your current rooms leans tan and brown, colors like blue and green are a great addition. You can add rich colors like forest and navy, or you can lighten things up during the warmer months with pale blue and lime green. Even small changes will make the environment more interesting and comfortable.
Also consider adding pattern to the room. This can be done with textiles. You can soften a room and add interest with pillows or throws in patterns like paisley, toile, or plaid. Observe your current furnishings and determine what style they are. Choose a fabric that is a similar style. For instance,if you have classic furniture in dark, heavy woods, plaid throw pillows will look great. If your furnishings feature clean lines and light woods, opt for more graphic patterns that are somewhat modern. You can also add pattern with wallpaper or wall hangings. Sometimes by just adding a few pieces of art to a room, you can liven it up and create interest. If you are unable to find suitable art, consider framing family photos for a touch of personalized art.
Making a room more inviting does not have to cost a fortune. Look for affordable, stylish changes that will add a lot of flavor to your environment. Everyone in your entire family will appreciate the effort.
