Décor and Door Protection: How to Redesign Your Office
January 28, 2010
They way you present and maintain your office gives off a lot of information to rivals and visitors. Your company will look better if the office is tidy, stylish and sophistication.Your choice of furniture and décor are therefore very important. Below you will find my top tips for restyling your office, including everything from décor to door protection.
The Welcome
If you have a visitor, they will be judging your company from the moment they arrive. Reception areas must be light and airy so that they feel welcoming. There should be a comfortable area for guests to wait in. You could provide either sofas or chairs, but be sure no to opt for anything overly comfortable or slouchy. You don’t want your reception area to look like someone’s lounge.
The Décor
Keep it simple.Don’t opt to paint entire areas bright or overbearing colours. Equally, though, too plain is not good. You could incorporate the company’s colours in feature walls, or in artwork.
The Props
Carefully placed plants can add a bit of colour.A bit of greenery also does wonders for staff morale. But just remember only live plants look good, so have your watering can to hand. You shouldn’t be afraid to blow your own trumpet a bit. If your company makes a product you’re very proud of, then display it in a cabinet in reception. This will demonstrate to visitors what you’re all about and how proud you are of that. You could also consider placing water coolers, neatly organised shelving and industry targeted magazines in reception.
Tidiness
Staff desks and kitchenette areas are often cluttered. It isn’t unfair to expect your staff to clean up these areas after themselves. After all they aren’t children. Even so, you shouldn’t ban personal items from staff desks. Your personnel will spend most of their week sitting at their desk, so should be entitled to make it their own. Anyway, most visitors will actually appreciate being reminded that your staff are people and not robots.
The Maintenance
Protecting your office is important.Otherwise you will periodically be forced to reinvest money on repairing cracks and chips to paintwork. There’s no use in revamping your office following these tips if you aren’t going to invest in a way to protect your hard work. You can buy a range of protective trims for doors and walls and they’re well worth the money. You might not have realised it until you stop to think about it now, but all those delivery boxes and tea trolleys are likely to do at least some damage to your walls and doors. There is no risk of this damage where wall and door protection are used.
