Wall Protection: Substance over Style?
January 27, 2010
For anyone tasked with decorating and maintaining a building, such as a hospital, school or office, finding the balance between practicality and style is problematic. Wall Protection must be taken into consideration in all places with high volumes of passers through or other risks of wall damage.
If you work in or visit hospitals, you’re no doubt familiar with wall protection since that’s typically where we see it most.To protect hospital walls from trolleys and other wheeled medical equipment, wall protection is a common feature in corridors. Nowadays, hospitals are decorated in such a way to create a positive, relaxing environment for patients and staff. Luckily, wall protection isn’t all drab. Quite the opposite: massive ranges offer varying colours, patterns and materials. Wall protection and handrails in contrasting colours to the walls are a requirement by some regulations for the partially sighted. This means that designers are more creative than ever.
In schools, corridors are also at risk from passing rucksacks, computer trolleys and general hustle and bustle. School corridors suffer hustle and bustle which can damage their walls.Wall protection is often in place in educational environments. Just as with hospitals, school décor is more of an issue than ever before.
Bumps from delivery boxes and passing tea trolleys are the affliction of office walls. Ordinary plastic wall protection is rarely considered classy enough by office managers. Fortunately, most tastes can be catered for with wide ranges of wall protection. Customers may even wish to choose bespoke protection in corporate colours.
Perhaps you don’t think this is relevant to you.But wall protection does have a purpose in the home too. Scratches and chips may be more frequent in homes with wheelchair users. In such situations more discreet wall protection can be used, so that the general décor and feel of the home is not altered too much.
Functionality is no longer the sole consideration behind wall protection. Wall protection isn’t about to become the next big thing, but it’s more stylish than it’s ever been.
