Problems With Weeds

December 5, 2009

The biggest problem homeowners encounter with their lawns other than maintaining it properly and watering are weeds. Weeds are best not included in a spread of what we call turf grass. Weeds are somewhat parasites in your garden, they are fast growers (cannot handle being trimmed compared to turf grass) and may have a limited life cycle. But throughout their lives, they consume a lot of limited resources the other plants might have. Growing weeds can be tempting instead of growing grass, however weeds only grow during limited times during the growing season.
There are basically three types of weeds. The weeds that are easy to identify are broadleafed weeds because they have broad leaves are are generally produced in pairs or multiples. Flat leaves are situated on the stem. Herbicides are available to control broadleaf weed from growing. The best-adapted turf grass species is planted to achieve a healthy lawn. Proper turf management practices should also be observed, since these weeds can still invade your lawn. The Grassy-type lawn weeds are a little harder to identify than broadleafed weeds because they are also true grasses or monocots. Mowing and chemical control can be done to control them from growing. Grass-like weeds are the third type of weed. They look like grass at first glance, however at a second look they are quite easy to tell from grasses. The stems are triangular in shape upon close look.
Cutting with a good mower will also save you a lot of time and energy. If your mower breaks down, you can get Lawn Boy Part online or in the nearest local shop.
