The Distinctive Ball Chair : Created By Eero Aarnio As A Modern Furniture

One of the most valued interior designers of the modern time, the Finnish-born creator Eero Aarnio gave life to some of today’s most accepted designs. A ground-breaking thinker, Aarnio made himself as an adept in making eccentric designs for home furnishings utilizing fiberglass and plastic. One creation that is considered by many to be Aarnio’s finest work yet is the so-called Ball chair.
If you were asked what form a chair is, the last thing that you think of is a ball. However, as unbelievable as it may look Eero Aarnio made a chair out of such a form. Also known as the Globe chair, the Ball chair is a lounge chair made up mainly of a big hollow ball. The chair is made from light and steady laminated fiberglass, a compound of synthetic polymer and glass fibers. The inner part of the chair is lined with brightly-hued polyurethane cushions covered in leather or fabric, and fitted with a large fiberglass pedestal to avoid it from collapsing.
Aarnio designed the Ball chair in 1962 and was originally proposed for his personal use in his home in Helsinki. A prototype was first manufactured from plywood, which was then utilized to make the fiberglass exemplar through an inner mold system similar to that used in making glider wings and fuselage. Aarnio also iput up a bright red telephone on the side of the interior, even if it is now changed with digital music players and other alike electronic devices.
In addition to its exceptional type, the Ball chair is also considered for making a “room within a room” result wherein the person sitting on the chair experience a sense of oneness and calm, This effect is inspired chieftly on the chair’s fiberglass dome “swallowing” or obtaining sound around it. The Ball also serves as the origin for Aarnio’s following chair design, the Bubble Chair, which had the Ball’s spherical form but is made from transparent acrylic resin.
