Looking After Doors and Door Frames

November 16, 2009

Savings can be made to the maintenance costs of door edges, faces and frames using door protection systems. When fitted to older doors they are given a complete new look, whilst new doors will stay in pristine condition for much longer.

High traffic areas of building (whether vehicles or people) will soon start to age if they are not protected by heavy duty door protection systems. Modern production methods make the cutting and shaping of panels possible to ensure they match your requirements exactly.

Door Protection Panels & Plates

The most vulnerable part of the door can be protected using thin panels of metal or PVCu. The bottom of the door and the area next to the handle tend to be the areas most prone to wear and are this is normally where panels and plates are fitted. Custom made panels can be custom produced to match the varying sizes and shapes of the doors throughout your building.

Door Edge Protectors

A new lease of life is given to old doors by adding door edge protectors. They can be fitted to new or existing doors and there is no limitation on the thickness of the door. Swing doors, radius door and square can all have door edge protectors applied to them.

One hour and half hour fire ratings can be achieved with the addition of smoke/fire seals to fire doors.

Door Frame & Architrave Protectors

Normally custom made, door frame & architrave protectors can be fitted to existing and new door frames. Typically they are manufactured from PVCu to provide impact resistance with no sharp edges.
Note: Cutting panels to size often leaves residue material and it’s often possible to make up Push/Kick Plates from such residue at a significantly reduced cost.

Accessibility

D-Plates assist the partially sighted. A requirement for door handles to be easily recognizable can be met by adding d-plates to the door rather than having to replace the entire door handle.

Colours and Finishes

Most stockists will provide colour swatches or samples of the material they intend to use. The effects of abrasion can be concealed by using heavily textured surfaces such as Hessian. A smooth, safe corner can be achieved by chamfering the edges of the material.

Installation

Door panels, D plates and door edge protectors can be fixed using double sided tape by most handymen. Door Frame & Architrave protection will require more advanced skills.
