The Texas Chainsaw Massacre

November 9, 2009

When most people think of chain saws, they think of cutting wood or possibly of creating some chainsaw art. However, for others the words may conjure up images from the Hollywood movie, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. There are many movies throughout cinematic history that have portrayed stories of serial killers using power saws to cut up the bodies of helpless victims. However, this movie has always stood apart from other chainsaw type horror flicks.

While the main murdering character in the movie is somewhat based on a real serial killer, the movie itself is a work of fiction. Creator Tobe Hooper based the main character, Leatherface, on Wisconsin serial killer Ed Gein, who was given credit for several different murders that were committed in the 1950s. He was also reported to have cut up some of his victims and used their bones and body parts for clothing and other items.

Are you a fan of scary monsters, witches and zombies or are you more of a realistic, horror movie fan? Many people would rather watch films that scare them because the events could actually happen. Others however, will take flesh eating werewolves over maniacs with construction tools any day. Whichever type of movie you prefer, you most likely will admit that horror movies where the situations could actually be real, like The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, can be pretty scary.

Many people love to be scared, whether they prefer a crazy person killing teenage girls with his construction tools or a vampire hunting because he is craving blood. Yet for some people, it is the realism in horror flicks that makes the hairs on the back of the neck stand up and the goose bumps to pop up. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre was one of those movies. It left many people chilled to the bone as Leatherface terrorized his victims with his power saw. This movie will possibly be one of the most remembered movies, as far as horror films are concerned, of all time.
